plein air equipment
Full plein air set-up: I use a lightweight easel with adjustable
paper support and equipment tray. It comes in a soft-sided
briefcase and accessory bag that holds not only the easel, but paints,
palette, brushes and other stuff I need. Check this out at
enpleinairpro.com and see the entire set-up below. I've found that
1/8 sheet (7.5" x 11") of a full watercolor sheet works best for me.
That's about an hour's painting. Occasionally I will do a quarter
sheet.

Journaling set-up. For journaling I use a more compact kit that fits in a small zipper bag (I use a
Crayola bag I found at the drug store). It's about 7" x 10" x 2". I use a Yarka 24-pan palette
that also holds three brushes. In the zipper kit, I include a foldable water container, some tissues
and a rag. I use either a 9" x 12" or a 6" x 9" watercolor sketch book. I'm set to go. (See below
left and center.)
If space is really tight, I have a small pocket kit (see above, right). It comprises a folding
palette that's about 2.5" x 5". I add a couple of small brushes and some watercolor paper cut to
5" x 7" or even smaller. Then all I need is a cup of water to get to work.
