Statement

Several years after I retired in 1998, I became serious about a long-held dream of painting in watercolor.  Since 2003 I've had the opportunity to study with several noted watercolor instructors: Naomi Brotherton, Tony Couch, Jerry Stitt, Frank Francese, Mel Stabin, Nita Leland, Carl Dalio, Sterling Edwards, Ken Hosmer and Eric Weigandt.  In this time I've grown and developed my own style.  I prefer representational paintings, mainly landscapes, but some still lifes and portraits, too.

Transparent watercolor is my medium.
Watercolor is illusive and constantly challenging . . . each painting has its own surprises and gifts.  I am fascinated by the rising and setting sun and the dynamic range of its changing light.  The bustle and architecture of cityscapes are also subjects I am drawn to.  When I can I like to paint on location, or en plein air.

Background

Raised in Memphis, Tennessee, I've lived in Texas most of my adult life . . . as the saying goes, "I got here as fast as I could."  I spent the last half of my working career in corporate public relations and advertising, although I was trained as an electrical engineer.

In 2008-2009, I wasserved as president of the Southwestern Watercolor Society, a 500-member regional organization, headquartered in Dallas.  I am also active in the Richardson Civic Art Society and am a member of the Society of Watercolor Artists (Fort Worth).   My paintings have been accepted in a number or local and regional juried shows and have won several awards.

My paintings are shown in Artists' Showplace Gallery, where I am one of the owners.  It's located at the southwest corner of Coit and Arapaho Roads in north Dallas/Richardson, Texas.
