The Golden Mean, or Golden Ratio, is a classical  design  ratio, often seen in ancient Roman and Greek architecture, as well as proportions of paintings.  If you want more information about the Golden Mean than I've shown in the referenced page, the internet is loaded with data; just Google.

One of my favorite ways to paint is en plein air, or direct painting outside, on location.  This page contains some samples of my plein air work and some of the equipment I use.
